ANOVA Table


An ANOVA table is a tabular summary of an analysis of variance. Its rows identify sources of variation, and its columns ordinarily give the corresponding degrees of freedom, sums of squares, mean squares, and test statistics. For a source having sum of squares SS and nu degrees of freedom, the mean square is

 MS=(SS)/nu.

An F statistic is a test statistic formed by dividing an appropriate source mean square by an error mean square. The statistical model specifies the assumed relationship between the observations and their sources of variation. The precise rows and degrees of freedom depend on this model and on the experimental design.
