Statistical Model

A statistical model is a set of statistical distributions proposed as possible distributions of observed data. A parametrized model is commonly written

 P={P_theta:theta in Theta},

where theta is a parameter and Theta is the parameter space. The model records assumptions about how the data are generated and determines which estimators and statistical tests are appropriate.
