Vertical Asymptote


A vertical asymptote of the graph of a function f is a vertical line x=a for which at least one of the one-sided limits satisfies

 lim_(x->a^-)f(x)=+/-infty or lim_(x->a^+)f(x)=+/-infty.

For a rational function, vertical asymptotes typically occur at real zeros of the denominator that are not canceled by zeros of the numerator.
