Uniform Roe Algebra

The uniform Roe algebra of a uniformly discrete metric space X of bounded geometry is the operator-norm closure of the finite-propagation bounded operators on l^2(X). Finite propagation means that T_(xy)=0 when d(x,y)>R for some finite R. The matrix entries lie in C. For a finite space with q points, the algebra is M_q(C). The Roe algebra instead uses l^2(X) tensor l^2(N) and requires local compactness of its operators, with compact operators as matrix entries. That is the version used in the coarse assembly maps discussed here.
