Spherical Twist

A spherical twist is an autoequivalence associated with a spherical object in an appropriate derived category. For an n-spherical object S, its self-extension space is C direct sum C[-n] and the Serre functor takes S to S[n]. The twist is defined by the evaluation cone

 T_S(E)=Cone(RHom(S,E) tensor S->E).

For a smooth quintic threefold, the structure sheaf is 3-spherical. Its twist, composed with tensoring by O_X(1), gives the autoequivalence in the quintic Gepner stability problem.
