Sabermetrics

Sabermetrics is the study of baseball statistics. Bill James, coiner of the term, defined it more precisely as "the search for objective knowledge about baseball." The term is derives from the acronym SABR, which stands for the Society for American Baseball Research.

In the Season 1 episode "Sacrifice" (2005) of the television crime drama NUMB3RS, the character Charlie uses sabermetrics as an analogy for character Hoke's use of statistics to create a formula giving a measure of human potential.
