Prime Mark


A prime mark is the symbol ^' used to distinguish one quantity x^' (read "x prime") from another related quantity x. Common uses include

1. Transformed coordinates,

2. Conjugate points,

3. derivatives,

4. The complement F^' of a set F,

5. An alternate notation for transpose.

Two prime marks form a double prime, as in x^('').
