Lagrangian Submanifold

A Lagrangian submanifold of a symplectic manifold (M^(2n),omega) is an n-dimensional submanifold L on which the restriction of omega vanishes. For example, the zero section of the cotangent bundle T^*Q is Lagrangian for its canonical symplectic form dlambda. Here the canonical 1-form is lambda_((q,p))(v)=p(dpi(v)), where pi:T^*Q->Q is the bundle projection. A Lagrangian submanifold in this cotangent bundle is called exact if lambda|_L=df for a smooth real function f on L. The graph of df is an exact Lagrangian submanifold. The nearby Lagrangian conjecture concerns exact embedded examples that are compact without boundary.
