Jung Constant

The Jung constant of a normed space X is

 J(X)=sup_(A)(r_X(A))/(diam(A)),

where A ranges over bounded subsets of positive diameter, and r_X(A)=inf_(c in X)sup_(a in A)||a-c|| is their least enclosing radius with center in X. The center need not lie in A.

For spaces with the taxicab metric, Li (2026) proved that, for every positive integer k,

 J(l_1^(4k+1))<=(4k-1)/(4k),

where l_1^d is R^d with the taxicab metric. In particular, J(l_1^5)=3/4. If a Hadamard matrix of order 4k exists, the same value (4k-1)/(4k) is attained in dimensions 4k-1, 4k, and 4k+1 (Li 2026). Li (2026) supplies a Lean formalization of the upper bound.
