Dual Coxeter Number

The dual Coxeter number h^ v of a complex simple Lie algebra is the normalization constant relating its Killing form B to the invariant bilinear form b normalized so that long roots have squared length 2,

 B(x,y)=2h^ v b(x,y).

For sl(n,C) with n>=2, h^ v =n (Fox 2026). The reciprocal 1/h^ v is the optimal constant in the Lie algebra extension of the Böttcher-Wenzel inequality for the Hermitian norm induced by a compact real form (Fox 2026).
