Calabi-Yau Category

A Calabi-Yau category, in the triangulated sense, is a k-linear triangulated category T whose hom-sets are finite-dimensional vector spaces over a field k and whose Serre functor S is isomorphic to an integer power [d] of its shift as a triangle functor. Here d is an integer, and the triangle structure on S is the one compatible with its Serre duality (Keller 2008, corrected author version, pp. 7-8).

More precisely, T is weakly d-Calabi-Yau when

 S=[d]

as k-linear functors. Equivalently, there are bifunctorial k-linear isomorphisms

 Hom(X,Y)^*=Hom(Y,X[d]),

where the star denotes the dual vector space over k. The stronger d-Calabi-Yau condition requires an isomorphism of triangle functors. With coherent shift powers, the standard triangle structure on [d] has shift comparison (-1)^d1_([d+1]). The comparison between S and [d] must respect these shift isomorphisms, rather than merely be a natural isomorphism of the underlying functors (Keller 2008, corrected author version, p. 8).
