Bogomolov-Gieseker Inequality

A Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality bounds Chern classes of semistable sheaves by a discriminant inequality. For a slope-semistable torsion-free sheaf E of rank r on a smooth polarized projective complex variety of dimension n>=2, the classical form is

 H^(n-2)(2rc_2(E)-(r-1)c_1(E)^2)>=0.

Threefold tilt-stability inequalities also involve the third Chern character. They require additional hypotheses or corrections and are distinct from the classical inequality.
