A basis relation, also called a basic relation, of a coherent configuration on a finite set is one of the binary relations
,
, ...,
in the set partition of
that defines the coherent
configuration. The adjacency matrices of
the basis relations form a vector basis of the adjacency algebra, and their matrix
products are determined by the intersection
numbers.
