Abelian Variety Polarization

An abelian variety polarization on an abelian variety A over a field k is an isogeny lambda:A->A^ v that, over an algebraic closure, is induced by an ample line bundle L via

 lambda_L(x)=t_x^*L tensor L^(-1),

where t_x is translation by x. It is principal when it is an isomorphism. The ample line bundle need not itself descend to k (Milne 2008). Principally polarized abelian varieties are parametrized by the Siegel moduli variety.
