2-to-1 Game

A 2-to-1 game is a labeling optimization problem on a finite bipartite graph with left alphabet {1,...,2q} and right alphabet {1,...,q}, for a positive integer q. Each edge occurrence e=(u,v) carries a function pi_e from the left alphabet to the right alphabet, with exactly two elements in every fiber. Parallel edge occurrences may carry different functions. For example, pi_e(1)=pi_e(2)=1 is allowed when q=1. A labeling satisfies e when a(v)=pi_e(a(u)). The value is the maximum fraction of satisfied occurrences in a nonempty list of constraints (Trevisan 2008).
