2-Factorization

A 2-factorization of a graph is a partition of its edges into 2-factors. An ordered 2-factorization assigns labels to the factors, so permuting distinct factors gives a different ordered 2-factorization.

Lee (2026) proved that the number F_2(G) of ordered 2-factorizations of an n-vertex 2r-regular graph satisfies

 F_2(G)=((1+o_r(1))(2r)/(e^2))^(rn),

where o_r(1)->0 as r->infty, uniformly over simple graphs G. Every such factorization has r factors, and the number of unordered 2-factorizations is F_2(G)/r!. Lee (2026) reports ChatGPT assistance with an auxiliary proof.
