Mathematica 6 and The Wolfram Demonstrations Project Launched

Dear MathWorld Readers,
As many of you have probably noticed on the pages of MathWorld, a number of exciting new things have happened in the last few days that may be of special interest to you.
The first is the long-awaited release of Mathematica 6. Mathematica is the extremely powerful mathematical software tool that is used to both do the computations and generate the actual web pages that make up MathWorld. Mathematica is also the premier product of Wolfram Research, which is the sponsor and host of the MathWorld site. Many MathWorld pages contain downloadable Mathematica notebooks with much of the code used to derive their pages' mathematical and graphical content.
Mathematica 6 is a truly major release. Among its many other features, it provides vastly improved 2D and 3D graphics capabilities. Please visit http://www.wolfram.com/mathematica to find out (much) more.
For MathWorld readers who may not need to harness the full computational power of Mathematica themselves but may still be interested in the computations and visualizations it can produce, the new Wolfram Demonstrations Project (http://demonstrations.wolfram.com), unveiled in conjunction with the release of Mathematica 6, contains more than a thousand interactive Demonstrations built with Mathematica.
The Demonstrations Project spans many fields and levels and, like MathWorld, is open for contributions. The Demonstrations are all free, and their code (which is often just a few lines of Mathematica) is open and accessible. The Demonstrations Project is an extension of Wolfram Research's commitment to research and education, joining other free websites such as The Wolfram Functions Site, WolframTones, and, of course, MathWorld.
There are already hundreds of links from the Demonstrations Project website to MathWorld. Over the next few weeks and months, I'll be adding hundreds more from MathWorld to Demonstrations of interest to MathWorld readers.
Thanks again for your readership and support of MathWorld over the years. Your comments and feedback are always invaluable. I look forward to continuing the site's success far into the future, with increased interactivity provided by Mathematica-powered Demonstrations.
As always, you may leave comments on MathWorld using the contact web form.
Best wishes,
Eric WeissteinMathWorld Creator
